Valentin Nägerl, winner of the Maxime Dahan 2023 prize

The Maxime Dahan 2023 Prize for Innovation in Methods and Instrumentation at the Interface of Physics, Biology & Medicine has been awarded to Valentin Nägerl, Professor of Neuroscience and Microscopy and Research Team Leader at the IINS at the University of Bordeaux. The award honors his major contributions to brain research and super-resolution microscopy.

Previous winners of the Maxime Dahan Prize:

  • 2021: Dr. Valentina Emiliani, CNRS research director at Institut de la Vision in Paris, where she heads the Photonics department and the Wavefront Engineering microscopy team.
  • 2019: Prof. Robert H. Singer, Professor of Cellular Biology and Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

Valentin Nägerl received his aawrd during the 3rd edition of the Symposium « A tribute to Maxime Dahan » took place on December 14 and 15, 2023 at Institut Curie. Focusing on the theme « Manipulation of cellular organization by optogenetics and magnetogenetics », the symposium brought together 14 renowned speakers and nearly 140 participants. Together, they reviewed recent advances in the exploration of cellular processes using light (optogenetics) and magnetism (magnetogenetics). Two study procedures offering a radically different perspective on cellular biology.
