Title
Bridging the gap between cognitive neuroscience and clinical practice: Temperament Based Therapy with Support (TBT-S) – A bottom-up approach to anorexia nervosa treatment
Abstract
Temperament Based Therapy with Support (TBT-S) is an emerging neurobiologically-informed skills-based family intervention for adults with anorexia nervosa (AN). It leverages findings from cognitive neuroscience to address the neurobiological underpinnings of AN, providing a structured bottom-up framework that targets reward and motivational deficits associated with this illness. TBT-S integrates neurobiological psychoeducation and structured skills training to enhance symptom management through a strength-based framework. Rather than pathologizing temperament traits commonly associated with AN, TBT-S leverages these characteristics as adaptive assets in the recovery process. Preliminary open trials suggest that TBT-S is associated with reductions in eating disorder symptoms and improvements in motivation for recovery.
