Marian Diamond Prize

Bordeaux Neurocampus launches its 1st call to recognize outstanding achievements in Neuroscience of an early career female researcher in our community.

Marian Diamond (1926-2017) was an American pioneer in anatomical neuroscience who provided the first scientific evidence for anatomical neuroplasticity in the early 1960s. Later, her work on Einstein’s brain in the 1980s gave new impetus to the study of neuron-glia interactions.

Initiated by the Neurocampus Parity Committee (NPC), the Marian Diamond Prize aims to raise the profile of female neuroscientists at a crucial stage in their careers, the postdoctoral period, when they face many barriers to reach academic positions.

The members of the NPC will evaluate the proposals and announce the awardee before the PhD Seminar on February 9th 2024, which will be extended on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11th).

The winner will receive a cash prize of €1000, and will be invited to present her research to the whole community on May 16th 2024 at the Bordeaux Neurocampus Day.

• ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
– Be a non-tenured postdoctoral female researcher
– Be under contract on January 2024 as a member of Bordeaux Neurocampus institute
– Be present on campus on February 9th and May 16th 2024

• EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD
– Positioning/impact of the research work in the scientific field in relation to opportunities. That is, the researcher’s activities, results and achievements are evaluated in the context of career and life experiences, including significant career interruptions.
– Involvement in the scientific community, including support for diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as science outreach (such as DuoDay, Déclics, La semaine du cerveau, student/patient associations…).
